 Dear Education Partner,

The increasing competitiveness of the global market and the shift to an information, service and technology-based economy has spawned a need for college and career-ready professionals, like yourself.  Christian County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our students have the 21st-century skills necessary to be college/career ready – the foundation for success in life, and we need your help.

The district’s goal is to continue to raise the number of students that are college/career ready. Advising is one of several key strategies we are using to reach this goal.

In support of our efforts, the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department for Workforce Development have developed a community based advising system known as Operation Preparation. Operation Preparation will take place at each middle and high school in Christian County. Operation Preparation will provide a powerful opportunity for schools, students, parents and communities to collaborate in the college and career planning process.

During Operation Preparation, trained volunteer community advisors will meet with a small group of 8th and/or 10th grade students in a public setting at school. Using the student’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP) community advisors will talk with the student about the student’s career aspirations and required education/training; whether the student is on target to meet these goals; and whether the student is taking the courses recommended to prepare for a successful future.

We want to partner with you to create an environment in which all students are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. One way you can assist us is by encouraging your employees/members to volunteer a small amount of their time to be an Operation Preparation community advisor. If you and your employee/members could give just one hour, what a difference it would make in the life of a student.  We value business and community engagement in our schools and are excited for you and your employees/members to participate as a supportive role model and mentor to children on the path to college/career readiness.

To get started, please complete the attached form for a list of career paths that you would be willing to talk with a small group of students about. Also, on the form, we ask that you select a school(s) and dates/times that you can volunteer. Each session is approximately 20 minutes long. Your support and employee/member participation will help ensure all of our students are on target to be college/career-ready and prepared for a successful future.

We look forward to working with you to make a difference in the lives of our children.  In order to plan effectively for this event, we would like to have your commitment by Monday, February 27.
