Interim Principal Named for Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary

 

Christian County Public Schools’ Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill has appointed Anita Hopson to serve as the interim principal at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School during the 2017-18 school year. See picture *attached.

 

Current MLK, Jr. principal Cassandra Spearman will be resigning from her position at the end of this school year due to the military relocation assignment for her husband. Ms. Spearman and her family will be re-locating to Texas.

 

The MLK, Jr. Site Base Decision Making (SBDM) Council began its search for a principal in January. The decision to appoint Ms. Hopson as interim principal comes from the council’s choice to close the search for a principal at this time and instead, request an interim principal.

 

Hopson currently serves as the districtwide elementary education director, coordinating the gifted and talented services, and supporting administrators in the use of data to determine effectiveness of programs and practices. Hopson was the principal at Belmont Elementary School for five years and has more than 20 years of experience in the field of education as a teacher, curriculum specialist and as a principal.

 

Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says she believes Ms. Hopson will continue building upon the successes the school has worked hard to achieve in recent years.  “Ms. Hopson possesses exceptional leadership skills that I know will continue the momentum of the school’s progress. I know she is committed to student achievement and that she is well respected by this community. For those reasons and more, she will be a great asset to the school.”

 

Hopson will be begin her duties as interim principal, effective immediately.
